Abbreviation of the Day: BC / AD

The calendar that we use today starts at the birth of Jesus Christ.

BC is used to mark a year that occurs Before Christ was born.

Usually, the BC abbreviation is written after the year.

3,500 BC, for example, is when the wheel was invented.

AD is used to mark any year after Christ was born.

AD is an abbreviation for the Latin Anno Domini, which is Latin and can be translated as ‘the year of our Lord.’

Although AD is not used as often as BC when AD is used, it is used before the year, as in AD 2017.

There you go, the basics about the abbreviations BC and AD.
