Have your fingers in many pies

A person who has their fingers in many pies is very busy or interested in many different things. They are surely multi-taskers.
How is it possible that this woman has her fingers in many pies yet still has not eaten breakfast?

English Idiom: Have your fingers in many pies

Believe it or not, I am quite busy before breakfast.

Some days, I have almost half a day’s work completed before 8 am.

The reason is that some of my students are extremely busy.

In other words, they have their fingers in many pies.

They are working moms and dads with business trips to go on, tests to create, presentations to prepare, reports that are due, kids to wake up and get dressed, research to complete, English language lessons to take, proposals to propose, employees, to employ, new hires to hire and trains to catch.

These extremely busy people, my students, have their fingers in many pies, and I still find it amazing that they can do them all.

And do them well, too!

People with their fingers in many pies are very busy or interested in many different things. They are indeed multi-taskers.

Someone like Elon Musk of Tesla is a perfect example of someone with their fingers in many big pies.

Mr. Musk is a man with many interests.

One quick Internet search will reveal the companies he is involved in: PayPal, Tesla, SpaceX, The Boring Company, and others.

It’s a mystery to many people how he can simultaneously be involved in them, but he somehow does it.

Just like the rest of us, Mr. Musk has ten fingers.

The difference is that he has his fingers in many different pies.

Who knows, perhaps, like most of us, he likes pie too.
