Word of the Day: Flip-flop
What are the qualities of a good leader?
Well, for one, a strong leader should be decisive and not flip-flop often or, rather, not at all.
When someone flip-flops, they change their mind frequently and are indecisive.
When someone flip-flops, they change their mind frequently and are indecisive about what they want to do or say.
They often change their minds about what they want to do or say.
This word comes from the sound of a flip-flop, which is a type of sandal.
The term, first used in the 1940s, describes someone who changes their opinion about something.
Since then, the meaning has also changed to describe people with unstable personalities.
In a business environment, indecisive leaders have a negative impact on their employees.
Employees feel less committed to the company and are less likely to be loyal to the company.
In a political environment, indecisive leaders can cause an entire country to suffer.
They cannot make any progress on key issues or take any decisive action that would have long-term benefits.
An indecisive leader is not suitable for the country or the company they head.
This then leads me to ask another question.
Does Japan need a strong leader?
I think we can all agree that the immediate former Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga was not leader material.
During his less than one-year term in office, he epitomized the definition of the flip-flop.
I would go so far as to say Prime Minister Suga made flip-flopping an art form.
The man performed them so well that sometimes within hours of making a decision, he flip-flopped in favour of the direct opposite result.
Prime Minister Suga flip-flopped more beautifully than a gymnast at the Olympics.
