Hourglass figure

Having an hourglass figure means to be shaped like an hourglass and have a tiny waist. This used to be the 'ideal' body shape for women.
The hourglass figure is so 1950s and some things of the past are better left in the past.

Word of the Day: Hourglass figure

There was a time in the not-too-distant past when society told us it was ideal for a woman to have an hourglass figure.

Having an hourglass figure means to be shaped like an hourglass and have a tiny waist.

The truth is that most women don’t have an hourglass figure, just like most men don’t have a body like Hercules.

To be sincere here, many men are shaped like a snake that has eaten a basketball – thin on top (pun intended), skinny on the bottom and round in the middle.

Thankfully, we are slowly coming to realize that it is entirely OK to have a healthy figure, your figure, the one you were born with.

If a woman does have an hourglass figure, that is great for her; if she doesn’t, it is even better.

It takes all kinds to make a world, so why should we want to look how other people tell us we should?
