Word of the Day: Moonshot
A moonshot is research into technology that does not exist yet and probably seems impossible for the foreseeable future.
Some thinkers believe that seasteading will become normal one day, and people will live in floating cities on oceans.
Of course, no one knows how to do this yet.
I mean, how do you get a city to float, and how do they get fresh water, food, etc?
Therefore, research into this kind of area is a moonshot.
Only big companies such as Google can afford to run laboratories where people talk about and investigate such massive projects that have long-term unprofitability.
Another moonshot that I have heard about is the idea of a sky city in Tokyo.
A sky city would be one building in which upwards of 10,000 people could live, work, study and exercise without ever leaving the building.
Yes, it would be a massive, costly building, and we cannot build it yet.
That’s why it is called a moonshot.
