English Phrase: On the line

We need to respect firefighters, police officers and military personnel because they put their lives on the line every day.

In our daily lives, we need to have a healthy dose of skepticism regarding bankers and investment advisors because they are the ones who put our money on the line.

You see, when we put something on the line, we put it at risk.

The risk may be small or significant, but whatever we risk, there is always a chance we can lose it.

I know all about putting things at risk.

I’ve gone independent, created my own website, and now teach English privately.

I’ve taken a big chance.

So far, so good, but the hard part is trying not to get in over my head.
