Once bitten, twice shy

Once bitten, twice shy means that once you do something and experience a painful situation, you'll be careful not to repeat that mistake.
Once bitten, twice shy: So what if she said I have a square head? I’m still a good-lookin’ guy. I need to try again, but I can’t.

Saying: Once bitten, twice shy

Today’s saying, once bitten, twice shy, means that once you do something and experience a painful situation, you’ll be careful not to repeat that mistake.

Think about it this way.

Imagine that you are looking for a date.

You build up your courage and ask out a girl that you like.

She turns you down.

Strike one.

You still need a date.

But you have already been turned down once, so now you feel even more nervous than you did the first time and don’t want to be rejected again.

This is a perfect saying to use when you have to do something again, but you had a bad experience the first time you tried.

You must remember, though, that once bitten, twice shy may be accurate, but if at first, you don’t succeed, try, try again are also words of wisdom that come from experience.
