Word of the Day: Artery

An artery can be any of the large blood vessels, which are like pipes in your body that carry blood to and from all your parts and organs.

However, when we listen to a traffic report on TV or radio, we often hear the reporter say, ‘All major arteries are clear.’

I’m sure you can guess that the announcer is not giving a health report.

No, they don’t mean you have low cholesterol.

I’m sure you can understand that the reporter is saying that there are no significant accidents on the major roads and that traffic is moving smoothly.

That’s right, major roads and highways are also called arteries.
