Word of the Day: Conducive
Oh boy, conducive is an official and formal-sounding word.
Let me use it in a sentence for you.
As most people in Japan know, the northern part of the country has been hit by three typhoons and a rain front over the past few weeks.
That has created a situation not conducive to harvesting or growing crops.
If you have seen the news, you have probably seen pictures of onions and potatoes floating in flooded fields and gardens.
It may be due to climate change, or it may not be – that depends on what you believe – but with the scorching summer and now amazingly wet autumn, the weather is not conducive to growing vegetables.
Conducive means to provide the right conditions for something to happen.
