English Idiom: Work the room

In business or hosting a party at your home, working a room smoothly is considered a valuable skill.

To work a room means to network, meet and greet or mingle with the people.

Working a room is about building connections and relationships.

You have to network, meet and greet or mingle with the people.

If you are in business, you must speak to as many people as possible, exchange business cards, and make connections.

You never know when the relationships you build will be helpful.

If you are hosting a party, you need to walk around greeting and engaging your guests in conversation.

Working the room is not an easy thing to do, and not everyone enjoys doing it.

Knowing how to mingle is, however, a valuable skill to have.
