Lesson: A Heatwave Named Zoe

Heatwaves are becoming increasingly frequent. We name typhoons. Perhaps it’s time we name heatwaves too. It may be a good idea, as we now experience multiple heatwaves a year, making it hard to tell them apart and remember them. As I write this on July 1, 2022, the hottest Japanese June on record and almost the shortest rainy season have just ended. The rain has stopped, but the heat continues. Multiple areas had already experienced 40℃ days before the Japanese summer began. If it’s this hot now, what will it be in the dog days of summer? Let’s hope heatwave number one will end soon. But when will heatwave number two for the year begin?
