Lesson: Adaptability Quotient

Quite often, the topics I choose are about new and interesting things to me and hopefully for my students. I find the concept of an AQ or Adaptability Quotient very intriguing. I hope you do too. Humans are the top creatures on the Earth for a reason. It has nothing to do with our intelligence or passion and everything to do with our ability to adapt. We are the only creatures that can modify themselves to live anywhere. Very soon, companies will begin to measure your Qs (intelligence, emotional and adaptability quotients). The world is changing rapidly. What you learned in school is irrelevant, and what you learned in university is already outdated. I’ve always said the main reason for university is not to learn but to learn how to learn. Learning is the product of adaptability. Soon we will be tested not only on what we know but also our ability to unlearn the old and replace it with the new. I’ve included four articles below, but I also recommend you watch this 6-minute TED talk (below).

Each conversation topic is based on a theme. In order to help students acquire a basic understanding of that topic, four media articles are provided for them to read. I will never test you on the articles, but I strongly suggest you book lessons far enough in advance to give yourself enough time to properly prepare. The better prepared you are, the more benefit you will receive from our conversations.

Below is an example article for this conversation topic.
