Lesson: Become AI-proof

AI is improving rapidly. Already this year, there has been a dramatic cut in entry-level positions due to AI-replacement. New university graduates are becoming redundant before they have ever held a job. To make your employment AI-proof over the next five years, focus on developing skills that artificial intelligence struggles to replicate. Prioritize roles that require complex problem-solving, creativity, emotional intelligence, and interpersonal communication—such as leadership, counselling, negotiation, or roles in the arts. Continuously update your technical knowledge and learn to work alongside AI as a human-in-the-loop, leveraging it as a tool rather than a threat. Choose careers in fields that demand human judgment, such as healthcare, education, skilled trades, and advanced technical roles like AI development or cybersecurity. Cultivate adaptability, critical thinking, and a willingness to learn new skills, as the workforce will continue to evolve rapidly. By embracing lifelong learning and focusing on what humans do best, you can ensure your employment remains relevant and valuable, positioning yourself for success in an AI-augmented but human-centred future.
