Lesson: Cram It In

On the 23rd of July, 2021, the Chinese government banned for-profit tutoring companies. They decreed that no new licenses would be issued, and all existing companies had to become non-profits. Hundreds of millions of dollars in stock value were lost in an instant. The government also ordered that foreigners could not invest in these companies and out-of-country teachers could not teach for the newly-formed non-profits. The action was taken to allow children to play on the weekends and after school. Private tutoring is simultaneously big business and highly controversial.
