The perfect example of 'Dino Tech': a fax machine.
An example of Japanese eccentricity? or a sign of something else?

Lesson:

Dino Tech

Joe Biden, the American president, just made a trip to Asia. In Korea, the first thing he did was visit a semiconductor plant. In Japan, the first thing he did was see the emperor. What does that tell you? When I first came to Japan in 1999, electronics stores were full of exciting and innovative products. The fact there was a fax machine section was a little novel, but I quickly marked that down to Japanese eccentricity. Now, nothing technologically innovative comes from Japan. Japan has missed the technological boat. These days, when I enter an electronics store, I find few exciting or innovative Japanese products. I can, however, still find fax machines.
