Lesson: Generated Goo

AI-generated art has been around for a few years and has recently won an art award. Now that it has happened, we can begin to discuss whether AI-generated art is art at all. Naturally, human artists are not happy that a program has been recognized as creating art in the first place. This is not the first time AI has mastered a human skill. On May 11, 1997, the IBM computer Deep Blue beat the world chess champion, Garry Kasparov, in the first game of a six-game match. It was the first time a computer defeated a human in a formal chess game. First chess, now art. What other intellectual task will AI add to its repertoire of accomplishments next? Is AI coming for all of us?
