Lesson: Get Plenty of Rest

Long hours, unhealthy eating habits, and never getting enough sleep are just a few of the hazards of being a doctor in the Western world. Of course, long working hours have been a topic of discussion in Japan for decades, but when it comes to doctors, Japan does not have a monopoly on crazy working hours. The first article I’ve chosen for this discussion from Australia’s ABC News was the one that first caught my attention and inspired me to create this lesson topic. The Guardian article only added fuel to the fire. Atrocious working conditions are taking a toll on doctors everywhere. Canadian doctors have recently refused a pay increase and instead demanded improved working conditions and better equipment access. Doctors may, at times, seem like mini gods with peoples’ lives in their hands. Do we treat them with enough respect?
