Lesson: Gimme Shelter

From the title and picture, you can already guess the topic of this lesson. Two homeless men were turned away from an evacuation shelter in Tokyo during the 19th typhoon of the season, typhoon Hagibis. Yes, it sounds terrible and gave Japan some bad press, especially when Japan is hosting the Rugby World Cup, and the Tokyo Olympics are just around the corner. However, the homeless are routinely poorly treated, whether there is a natural disaster occurring or not. We’re going to discuss how to deal with the homeless in general and especially during natural disasters.
