Lesson: Golden Visa

What’s the importance of citizenship? I ask you this question right from the beginning to get you thinking about the value of being born where you were. Often you can’t choose the cards you are dealt in life, and most of us have to learn to bloom where we are planted, whether in Canada, Japan or Afghanistan. There is a growing trend among the world’s nations to allow certain types of people, especially the wealthy, to purchase citizenship outright. That’s correct; some people can pay money or promise to invest a certain amount of money and receive a passport for that payment. A Japanese citizen is only permitted to hold one nationality, which means if you are Japanese, you cannot be a dual citizen in any other country. Canadians are allowed to be dual citizens, and in some other countries, a person can hold up to three or more nationalities. With this in mind, I ask you again – what is the importance of citizenship?
