Lesson: La dolce far niente

Thank the Italians for having a saying for doing nothing: La dolce far niente. It’s common for northern Europeans to look down on southern Europeans as lazy money wasters. Come to think of it, though, wouldn’t you like to have some time to do nothing? It’s more complicated than you may think. Doing nothing takes daily practice to perfect. Believe me, I know all about it. I used to spend days and days just lying on the beach in Australia, looking up at the clouds and listening to the sound of the waves as they lapped against the shoreline. You may think it’s lazy, but apparently, I was doing something essential. You’ll have to read the articles to find out what.
