Lesson: Like Walking on the Moon

In past lessons, I’ve covered handmade shoes. This time, we cover the ultimate in mass-produced shoes – Crocs. The weather is getting warmer, which means summer is around the corner. Summer in Japan is as hot as hell, especially for your feet. Feet are trapped in shoes, basically coffins for your feet, most of the workday, sweating, stinking and sticky. This is why Crocs are so popular in Japan. Crocs allow your feet to breathe. The holes provide good airflow, and the bounciness makes it easier to be on your feet for long periods. So, what’s up with Americans? Why do so many Americans hate Crocs? Well, there are multiple reasons. Fashion-conscious people say that Crocs are a fashion atrocity, whereas podiatrists say they are unsuitable for foot health. Who cares what they say? I have Crocs, and I’m sure you have a pair of Crocs too. Let’s delve into the world of innovation, fashion and happy feet.
