Lesson: Lying Flat

China has been going through a tough time as of late. The COVID-19 pandemic began there, the economy is faltering, the power supply is becoming sporadic in many areas, and the nation’s youth is starting to lie flat. Like what the West is experiencing with millennials or what Japan has witnessed with the Heisei generation, China’s youth have begun to wonder why they are working so hard. Lying flat or tang ping in Chinese is a passive way to resist the government’s grow-at-all-costs attitude without actually protesting or getting into trouble.
