In 2018, Britain created a new government portfolio – Minister of Loneliness. In 2021, Japan did the same. There is an ongoing global pandemic of loneliness, but it isn’t just in our modern world. Can and should the government do anything about loneliness? Has the situation really become so bad that governments need to intervene and help people deal with loneliness?
