Casinos come with a lot of flash, glamour and pie-in-the-sky dreams of winning the jackpot. In life, you win some, and you lose some, but in casinos, the house always wins. Blockbuster movies such as Ocean’s Eleven and Casino Royale highlight the high life of casinos in Los Vegas and Monaco. There is an image of money, wealth and class associated with Casinos, but that is not the entire story. Yes, politicians and casino owners would have us believe that there are only benefits to gambling – gamblers have fun, governments get taxes, and casinos earn money. There is another side, a hidden side, a darker side of addiction, bankruptcy, heartache and broken homes. Should Japan be entering this arena?
