Lesson: READ

Technology is incredible and can enhance our lives in so many ways. However, there are two sides to every coin, and technology is also devastating to our reading ability. It’s incongruous because at a time when humanity needs to be better informed, and when reading is essential to daily life, we are reading less. Did you know that 25% of Americans have not read a book in the last year? Did you know that on a list of countries that read the most, Japan ranks 28th? India, Thailand, China, the Philippines, and Egypt make up the top five. France is the only significant Western power in the top ten, with the next major Western country, Australia, coming in at number 15. Reading brings benefits that cannot be overemphasized, yet we are in a reading crisis. Don’t panic; we can fix this.

Each conversation topic is based on a theme. In order to help students acquire a basic understanding of that topic, four media articles are provided for them to read. The better prepared you are, the more benefit you will receive from our conversations.
