It’s a schmozzle. Scientists live in a publish-or-perish world. Conducting worthwhile research requires time and patience. However, acquiring funding depends on attaining immediately useful results and having those findings published in a reputable publication. Oh, yes, the journals it’s all about money. Scientists pay to be published and then pay again to access the work of other scientists. The entire industry surrounding scientific research papers is in serious need of a redesign.
