Lesson: Retirement Homes

Retirement is something many people anticipate. Whether they plan to cease working entirely or only to slow down, they look forward to a change of pace and some time to do what they want. I’ve never heard anyone say they look forward to moving into a nursing home. Most people prefer to remain in their own homes for as long as possible. Staying in your own home is more comfortable and affords the person a sense of privacy and independence they cannot attain when sleeping in a room with strangers. As you read this now, I bet you are not looking forward to living in a nursing home when you are 88 years old. Why do we remove people from society and place them in ‘homes for the elderly’?
