Lesson: Set the Mood

The times we live in cause us all to experience moments when our emotions feel overwhelming — whether it’s sadness, anger, or anxiety. The good news is that resetting your mood is entirely within your control.

Start with your breath. Deep, slow breathing activates the body’s relaxation response, quickly calming a racing mind or tense body. Even three to five deliberate breaths can shift your emotional state.

Physical movement is another powerful reset. A short walk, a few jumping jacks, or gentle stretching releases endorphins that naturally lift your mood and dissolve tension.

Changing your environment also helps. Step outside, open a window, or simply move to a different room. A new setting signals your brain to break out of its emotional loop.

A change is as good as a rest!

Finally, name what you’re feeling. Labelling an emotion — “I feel frustrated” — reduces its intensity and puts you back in the driver’s seat.

Small actions, practiced consistently, create lasting emotional resilience.
