Lesson: Sexism Exists

Just the other day, while talking to a student about something, I forgot what it was; I said, “I’m glad I’m not a woman.” We laughed, and the conversation continued, but later while writing the feedback for her lesson, I thought about that statement. A woman always faces a headwind. There is always someone trying to push her back, drag her down, make her wear uncomfortable shoes, put her in her place, pay her less, treat her differently or judge her by her clothing. They say it’s a man’s world. Perhaps it’s high time that changed.

Each conversation topic is based on a theme. In order to help students acquire a basic understanding of that topic, four media articles are provided for them to read. I will never test you on the articles, but I strongly suggest you book lessons far enough in advance to give yourself enough time to properly prepare. The better prepared you are, the more benefit you will receive from our conversations.

Below is an example article for this conversation topic.
