Tourism is a huge industry worldwide. COVID-19 is bigger. What happens when two titans come face to face? One dies. Right now, from Australia to Zambia tourism is on its heels. Everyone from postcard sellers to airlines is suffering the effects of economic shutdowns and people’s reluctance to travel during a pandemic. This has led them to turn to their governments for help. The result is billions of dollars being pumped into travel promotions and subsidies. The big questions are: who will benefit? Will it be enough? And is it a good use of taxpayer money?
