Welcome to “Working After 80.” In Western nations, people are living longer and healthier lives, and an increasing number of people continue working after their 80th birthday. Working at this age can be a unique and inspiring experience. Some seniors continue their careers because they enjoy their jobs or because they have to. Others start new roles, volunteer, or share their skills as mentors. This lesson will explore why people work after 80, the challenges they might face, and the benefits they can gain, such as staying active, making new friends, and finding a sense of purpose. We’ll also look at real-life stories of people who work in their eighties and discuss the consequences of working so long after others have retired. By the end of this lesson, you’ll have new vocabulary and ideas for talking about age, work, and the impact of being employed later in life.
