Lesson: Daily Rituals

Do you set out your clothing for the next day before bed? After you shut down your computer, you may write down everything you accomplished at work each day, or it could be that you always prepare for a meeting in the same way. If you do any of these or there are other little things you do the same way each time you do them, then you have a daily ritual. A daily ritual is not a habit, although it may be a part of a habit. A habit is something done repeatedly for the purpose of performing the action itself. A ritual is something done repeatedly with a purpose outside of the action itself. For example, think about Ichiro Suzuki’s ritual of always pulling up his sleeve before stepping into the batter’s box. That’s a ritual, and daily rituals play a significant role in your everyday life and success.

Each conversation topic is based on a theme. In order to help students acquire a basic understanding of that topic, four media articles are provided for them to read. I will never test you on the articles, but I strongly suggest you book lessons far enough in advance to give yourself enough time to properly prepare. The better prepared you are, the more benefit you will receive from our conversations.

Below is an example article for this conversation topic.
