Lesson: The Grey Rhino
Sometimes it seems that China is an all-consuming colossus that will eventually dominate everyone and everything around it. We tend to forget that the Chinese are people too. People everywhere are the same, and the Chinese are no exception. In June 2021, I created a lesson, ‘Population Stagnation,’ discussing how Western countries face declining populations. The Chinese people will soon be ageing at a pace faster than that of Japan. This rampaging grey rhino* will present challenges for the entire world.
*A grey rhino is an obvious but ignored threat.
